Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health concern in tropical regions, including Indonesia. Kebulusan Village, located in Kebumen Regency, is one of the areas with a high vulnerability to DHF transmission due to the high density of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and low community awareness in practicing clean and healthy living behaviors. Field data indicate that DHF cases in this area tend to fluctuate, with incidence peaks during the rainy season. Vector control efforts through the “Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk” (PSN) 3M Plus program have been implemented periodically; however, their effectiveness largely depends on consistent community participation. As an additional innovation, a natural mosquito repellent spray that is safe for health and environmentally friendly was developed and utilized. This spray is formulated using lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), which possesses mosquito-repellent properties, thereby serving as a complementary tool to PSN in minimizing the risk of mosquito bites. The results of the intervention demonstrated an increase in community awareness regarding the importance of DHF prevention, as well as regular household use of the mosquito repellent spray. The integrated approach combining PSN activities with the use of natural mosquito repellent spray is expected to sustainably reduce mosquito populations and suppress DHF incidence in Kebulusan Village.
