Abstract

This community service program, conducted through the 2025 KKN UMP in Gombong Village, focused on the design, construction, and implementation of a rocket stove as an alternative waste management solution. The stove was built using lightweight concrete blocks (hebel) coated with cement mortar, featuring a vertical combustion chamber and a chimney to optimize airflow. This design ensured efficient heat concentration, allowing faster and more complete combustion of household waste. Trial results showed that the rocket stove could burn both organic and dry plastic waste more quickly, producing significantly less smoke compared to open burning. The combustion process reduced waste volume to fine ash, which can be reused as organic fertilizer. Environmentally, the reduced smoke emissions improved local air quality and minimized respiratory health risks, especially for children and the elderly. Socially, the project increased community awareness of sustainable waste management practices. With its low production cost, durability, and ease of replication, the rocket stove offers a practical and scalable solution to reduce pollution and improve rural waste management.
